The Donkey’s Tale

Yes, I know my place, lowest of my race.
Not a horse (of course)
But still have some force.

I carry great loads, Along dusty roads.
You might think I don’t know
But that just isn’t so!

I have these big ears
And can hear all their fears,
And I have a song,
Keeps me plodding along.

One day I was  hired
By a man who inspired.
He patted my back as
We walked down the track.

This young lady in blue
Came and smiled at me too
And my heart filled with joy,

As I carried her boy.
I knew it was He who
Made earth, sky and sea.
Yes – He even made me
– to be useful – yet free.

There’s a cross on my back,
So, there’s  nothing I lack,
For  the  Lord is with me,
And I’m happy to  be –  Just a donkey!
