In this deeply contemplative reflection written during a quiet day in early December, Sue led a meditation on the season of Advent as a call to stay awake and prepare amidst a world fraught with turmoil and despair. Drawing parallels between scripture and current global crises, she highlighted the ongoing suffering in Syria, Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan, alongside the pervasive struggles for freedom and dignity worldwide. Ultimately though ther is hope in Advent—a season to look back in gratitude, forward in anticipation, and to pray for God’s justice and righteousness to prevail.
Other people shared readings from the O Antiphons and The Donkey’s Tale. While a great favourite was the poems of Christmas Poems Paperback by U. A. Fanthorpe with readings from: The Sheepdog, Not the Millennium, The Wise Man and the Star and The Gardener at Christmas.
Thank you everyone who joined our Advent reflections series and the NBCW wishes everybody a very merry Christmas.
